Belgian White Beers

White ales are absolutely different from German or US wheat beers. A Belgian White ale must be brewed using at least 25% of wheat malt. Belgian wheat beers are fruitier, with a slight lemony touch, because the use of coriander seeds, orange peels, and other spices is very common.

This Classic Belgian style, an unfiltered wheat ale, white-gold in color, with a rounded, spicy tang.  Pale color and a beautiful cloudy glow.

Average alcohol by volume (abv) range: 4.0-7.0%

"Brugs" is a white beer from Western Flanders, based on a traditional Brabant brew. The name comes the Flemish "Brugs Tarwebier", which means "White beer of Bruges". Brugs was first brewed in Bruges, Belgium's answer to Venice. Every bottle of Brugs bears the "golden tree", harking back to the trophy traditionally awarded to the knights that won the tournaments held in the city back in the Middle Ages. The beer is pale yellow, slightly cloudy beer with a refreshing tartness. It's made from wheat and hops and is seasoned with bitter orange and coriander. The beer is unfiltered, as with all beers on lees, which allows it to keep the natural cloudiness given by its yeast. Often served with a slice of lemon, the beer has very low bitterness and a dense, creamy head.

The Blanche de Namur is pale, cloudy and milk like. It is mellow, thirst quenching and sweet. Its cloudy appearance is created when cold but disappears if the beer gets warm or if it is kept in a cold place for too long. Its aroma is fine and fruity and releases the aromatics used (coriander and the dried peel of bitter oranges). The characteristic bitter orange taste can be intensified by adding a slice of lemon in the glass. It should be tasted between 2° and 4°, chilled in the top of the refrigerator and goes well with not very spicy dishes, such as fish, white meat and poultry.
